What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Tahmoor Public School we are committed to recognising and nurturing high potential and gifted students, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive at our school.
- We identify students' learning needs in the classroom and use evidence-informed teaching practices to challenge and extend students.
- Our teachers engage in professional learning to support the diverse needs of all students, including our high potential and gifted learners
-Tahmoor Public School offers an Opportunity Class (OC) that provides high-potential and gifted students with enriched learning experiences, challenging their thinking, extending their skills, and promoting academic excellence
- Student talent is celebrated through a range of school groups, concerts and events such as the Wollondilly Performing Arts Festival, Southern Tablelands Dance Festival, Operation Art, as well as choir, recorder band, recorder ensemble, and dance programs.
- We proudly run student parliament sessions, giving students a strong voice in shaping their school community. Through parliament, students collaborate, share ideas, and drive positive change to make a real difference for their peers.
- Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.
- Sport is also highly valued, with opportunities including PSSA sport, swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals, engaging and differentiated physical education lessons, and pathways for students to trial for Razorback representative teams.
Our students participate in a wide range of statewide programs to extend and enrich student potential.
- Students participate in opportunities such as Premiers’ Debating Challenge, Premier’s Spelling Bee.
- The Representative School Sport Pathway and PSSA events provide students with opportunities to trial and compete at regional, state, and national levels, fostering discipline, commitment, and collaboration.
