"My kids have been there since 2020 and I have nothing but fantastic things to say about it! We were originally worried about the reputation and stories people have told but I am so glad I have sent them (my children) there. Every single teacher my kids have, has always gone above and beyond and we have been more than happy. They offer so much for sport and other extra-curricular activities like the creative arts." — a parent of Tahmoor Public School

What we can offer your child

Opportunity Class (OC)

Tahmoor Public School Opportunity class caters for academically gifted Year 5 and Year 6 students with high potential. The class helps students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and educational materials at the appropriate level.

The High Potential Students Team administers the opportunity class placement process.

Parents normally apply when students are in Year 4. Students who are placed then attend the opportunity class full time in Years 5 and 6. This is a two-year placement program.

Student success

Our school provides a high-quality, low-cost education that supports every child’s growth. We’re proud of our students’ success in learning, competitions and life beyond school.

Our student success looks like:
At Tahmoor Public School, student success is measured not only by academic achievement but also by personal growth, resilience, and a strong sense of community. Successful students demonstrate a love of learning, a commitment to doing their best, and a willingness to take on new challenges. They show respect for themselves and others, work collaboratively, and contribute positively to school life. We celebrate success in many forms, whether it's progress in learning, acts of kindness, leadership in the classroom, or participation in extracurricular activities, recognising that every student’s journey is unique.

A world of opportunities

We offer a wide range of programs and experiences to help them thrive. From STEM and sport to the creative arts and more, our broad curriculum encourages curiosity and critical thinking.

Our students have access to:
  • excursion and incursions - at Tahmoor Public School, each stage participates in carefully planned excursions and incursion that align with curriculum outcomes and enhance classroom learning. These excursions provide meaningful, real-world experiences that support students’ understanding across key learning areas, while also fostering independence, collaboration, and a deeper connection to their studies.
  • extra-curricular activities -  Tahmoor Public School offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities that support the development of the whole child. Students have the opportunity to participate in programs such as sport, choir, dance, public speaking, environmental initiatives, and special interest clubs. These activities help students discover new passions, build confidence, and develop valuable skills outside the classroom. We encourage all students to get involved and make the most of the diverse opportunities available to them.
  • a wide variety of subjects  - Our students engage in a broad and balanced curriculum that supports their academic, social, and emotional development. Core subjects include English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, and Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE). Students also participate in Creative Arts and Personal Development Health and Physical Education (PDHPE). Each subject is delivered in line with the NSW curriculum, ensuring students build strong foundations, critical thinking skills, and a love of learning across all areas.

Tailored learning support

We know every child learns in their own way. That’s why we provide tailored learning support to help each student do their best. Our programs meet different student needs. This includes high potential and gifted students, students with additional needs or disability, and those who need wellbeing support. At our school, your child will get the support they need to succeed.

We offer students:
  • School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs) play a vital role in supporting students within the classroom. Working alongside teachers, SLSOs assist with the implementation of learning programs, provide individual or small group support, and help ensure that all students can access and engage with the curriculum. Their presence helps create an inclusive learning environment where students with additional needs are supported academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • Student wellbeing is a top priority. We offer dedicated wellbeing and counselling support to ensure that every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn. Our school counsellor provides professional mental health and psychological support, including assessments, individual counselling, and guidance for families. In addition, our Wellbeing Officer works closely with students and staff to promote positive behaviour, emotional resilience, and social skills. Together, these roles help create a nurturing school environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.

A welcoming community

Our school is a place where students from all backgrounds feel safe, respected and part of the community. We value diversity and fairness. Your child will learn and grow in a school that celebrates who they are. We prepare students to be confident, well-rounded global citizens.

We create a welcoming community by:
  • Supporting students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
  • Incorporating culturally inclusive school events, such as Harmony Day
  • Implementing Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture based programs - Yama 2 You, Opportunity Hub
  • We offer Positive Behaviour Excursions to Wooglemai Environmental Education Centre, designed to engage students who may be experiencing challenges or disengagement from learning. This program provides a supportive and enriching environment that encourages positive choices, teamwork, and personal growth outside the traditional classroom setting
  • Recognising and respecting cultural differences in beliefs, values, traditions, and ways of learning.
  • Challenging stereotypes and biases and actively working to prevent racism or prejudice.
  • Including diverse perspectives in the curriculum and classroom discussions.
  • Listening to students and families and involving them in decisions that affect their cultural identity.
  • Creating safe spaces where students feel comfortable being themselves and sharing their cultural experiences.
